Mozilla Firefox 120.0 Installs New Features, But Criticisms Linger

The latest version of Mozilla Firefox, 120.0, has been released with a plethora of new features and bug fixes. However, despite the improvements, some long-standing issues remain unresolved, leaving users frustrated.

One critical security bug was identified in the release notes for versions 85.0.1 and 85.0.2, affecting only Windows systems. Additionally, several other bugs were reported on both Windows and Mac platforms. While clicking individual bug numbers provides detailed information about each issue's history, it seems counterintuitive to do so when users could simply quit the browser.

The Linux-related bug in Firefox's flatpak edition is a notable exception, with some users experiencing issues using this version of the browser. This has led to speculation that Mozilla may be deliberately ignoring or sabotaging its own development, as more and more users express dissatisfaction with the browser.

One long-standing issue is Firefox's refusal to integrate seamlessly with the KDE Plasma desktop environment. Despite attempts by third-party developers to provide patches and workarounds, Mozilla has consistently refused to accept these solutions or create its own alternative.

This hostility towards KDE is particularly galling, given that other Chromium-based browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, have no issues running on KDE systems out of the box. The OpenSUSE edition of Firefox, which uses a patch created and maintained by the OpenSUSE community, provides a working solution for users who want to integrate Firefox with KDE.

As a result, some users are choosing to stick with older versions of Firefox or explore alternative browsers altogether. With no indication that Mozilla plans to address these issues in the near future, it's little wonder that Firefox's popularity is waning. Until then, users will have to continue using workarounds and patches to get the most out of their browser experience.
